In Kandy there are spectacular displays of local culture and art, so you can get to know various aspects of Sri Lanka’s traditions.
The next two days will be spent at Yala National Park, known for its extraordinary variety of wild animals. The park borders the Indian Ocean and its most famous inhabitants include leopards, elephants and crocodiles.
The next few days start with a 4-hour drive to Galle – the largest remaining fortress in Asia, where you’ll spend the next few days exploring the Madu River and the unique wildlife that belongs to this impressive ecosystem. In addition to the river, you can also take a tour around Galle itself. The Old town is the perfect place to see the fortifications built by the Dutch and Portuguese.
Upon arrival in Sri Lanka you will have a chance to settle into your new surroundings and enjoy the local beaches for the first two days. On the third day it’s time for a visit to the renowned Yala National Park for a dawn safari. You’ll go in search of leopards, bears, elephants, and crocodiles with an expert naturalist. With an estimated 400 elephants and 35 leopards, Yala gives you a great opportunity to see these animals in their natural habitat.
After a final breakfast in Yala, you will make your way down the coast to Mirissa. After a day spent exploring the sights, sounds and beaches, the next morning you will be taken out to sea on a fantastic excursion to see the native whales in their natural environment. Spinner Dolphins are also typically spotted in this area.
Continuing on your journey around the south you will find yourself in Galle. Here you will be able to experience the ever famous stilt fisherman engaging in their daily catch. While in Galle be sure to take a guided walk to reveal fascinating facts about this ancient city.
The last leg of your journey will see you head to Colombo. As the island’s largest city it’s bursting with life and colour. Despite being so modern, the capital city of Colombo is an ancient place with a wealth of history to explore, we suggest you visit the famous Gangaramaya Temple, with its many statues of Buddha. The next day will sadly be your last but your personal driver will ensure you’re well taken care of and arrive at the airport in plenty of time!
