Essential Sri Lanka
11 NIGHTSEssential Sri Lanka ensures you see the best of this stunning country from its breathtaking wildlife to its humbling traditions and ancient landmarks.
After spending your first night in Negombo, you will be driven to Sigiriya which is home to the breathtaking Minneriya National Park. There are over 300 species here including elephants, bears and leopards as well as several ancient sites including the Rock Fortress and Polonnaruwa, an ancient capital.
The next few days will be spent exploring and sightseeing. Admire the Dambulla Cave Temple and the Spice Garden at Matale, where you’ll enjoy a guided tour through cinnamon, cardamom and other spice trees. In Kandy there are spectacular displays of local culture and art, so you can get to know various aspects of Sri Lanka’s traditions.
The next two days will be spent at Yala National Park, known for its extraordinary variety of wild animals. The park borders the Indian Ocean and its most famous inhabitants include leopards, elephants and crocodiles.
The next few days start with a 4-hour drive to Galle – the largest remaining fortress in Asia, where you’ll spend the next few days exploring the Madu River and the unique wildlife that belongs to this impressive ecosystem. In addition to the river, you can also take a tour around Galle itself. The Old town is the perfect place to see the fortifications built by the Dutch and Portuguese.
Journey South
8 NIGHTSUpon arrival in Sri Lanka you will have a chance to settle into your new surroundings and enjoy the local beaches for the first two days. On the third day it’s time for a visit to the renowned Yala National Park for a dawn safari. You’ll go in search of leopards, bears, elephants, and crocodiles with an expert naturalist. With an estimated 400 elephants and 35 leopards, Yala gives you a great opportunity to see these animals in their natural habitat.
After a final breakfast in Yala, you will make your way down the coast to Mirissa. After a day spent exploring the sights, sounds and beaches, the next morning you will be taken out to sea on a fantastic excursion to see the native whales in their natural environment. Spinner Dolphins are also typically spotted in this area.
Continuing on your journey around the south you will find yourself in Galle. Here you will be able to experience the ever famous stilt fisherman engaging in their daily catch. While in Galle be sure to take a guided walk to reveal fascinating facts about this ancient city.
The last leg of your journey will see you head to Colombo. As the island’s largest city it’s bursting with life and colour. Despite being so modern, the capital city of Colombo is an ancient place with a wealth of history to explore, we suggest you visit the famous Gangaramaya Temple, with its many statues of Buddha. The next day will sadly be your last but your personal driver will ensure you’re well taken care of and arrive at the airport in plenty of time!

After a day spent at your leisure, for your first few days, you’ll be exploring Habarana, a traditional Sri Lankan rural village. You’ll get a taste of their culture and way of life as you visit fruit farms and Samarasinghe Manor and accompany their resident elephants for bath time down the river!
After a fun few days in Habarana, you’ll then move onto Sigiriya where you’ll quickly settle into your new accommodation before enjoying an afternoon safari around Minneriya National Park, where you’ll spot a variety of rare, native animals.
Today you’ll be visiting Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a famous World Heritage Site. This striking landmark is a must-see attraction in Sri Lanka and one of the most admired sights on the Island. Following this, you’ll get to visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, another World Heritage Site that is not to be missed.
This morning you will travel to Kandy where you will visit the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, Sri Lanka’s largest botanical gardens and their famous Tea Estate. Here you’ll learn all about how the tea is made from start to finish before indulging in a tasting session at the end of the tour. Your personal driver will take you to the airport the next morning after a delicious breakfast.
