With around a third of all pistes being blue, the Swiss resort of Arosa is ideally suited to ski holidays for beginners. The Tschuggen beginner ski area just above Arosa is home to lots of easy blues, with the Hörnli piste starting at 2511m offering a long blue run home for the more confident beginners. For kids learning to ski, there are four children’s ski areas (in Arosa, Inner-Arosa, Prätschli and Tschuggen Hütte) that are easily accessible, making it an ideal resort for families with young children.
Arosa offers some great mountain side restaurants which are easy to get to for beginners including Weisshorngipfel at the top of the Weisshorn lift, or Brüggerstuba, half-way up at the middle station or Tschuggenhütte near the beginners area. The fun doesn’t stop off the slopes, with world-class spa facilities at the Tschuggen Hotel to relieve tired muscles as well as traditional alpine activities such as ice skating on the lake and night tobagganing.
Explore one of the most stunning alpine regions and learn to ski surrounded by dramatic views of the Eiger and Wetterhorn mountains. The Bodmi ski area a short bus ride from Grindelwald village (included in your lift pass) is designated for beginners with a drag lift and mini jump areas for adventurous learners. This is connected to the First ski area with lots of wide open blues which aren’t too busy as well as plenty of excellent mountain restaurants with traditional alpine cuisine on offer. On the other side of the mountains towards Wengen, Kleine Scheidegg is easily accessible with new lift openings and the old cog railway, with 33km of easy blue slopes including the home run down to Grindelwald.
Flims, Laax and Falera is home to 88km of runs, which are suitable for beginners (just over a third of the total ski area), notably the runs near Foppa and Crap Sogn Gion which are both easily accessible from Flims Dorf. The gentle and wide pistes make for ideal practice areas for those new to skis. Towards Falera there is a snowy wonderland and two ski parks for kids. If you head over to the Laax side of the mountains, then the Beginner Park caters to Snowboarders and Freestylers who are learning.
Off the mountain there is also the Freestyle academy in Laax where novices can practice jumping like the pros. The Waldhaus Spa offers unparalleled facilities, with indoor and outdoor pools, as well as aromatic steam baths and saunas. Flims is a great all-round destination for ski holidays for beginners.
Zermatt offers extensive facilities catering to beginners to skis, and with a snow-sure glacier, the resort offers up a high-altitude option for ski novices. There are three dedicated nursery slopes, Wolli’s Park at Sunnegga with state-of-the-art facilities including four magic carpets just a 5 minute funicular from Zermatt, Täsch and Randa, as well as plenty of sloping blues in the Gornergrat area. The beginners parks are all located in easy-to-access areas up the mountain, meaning they are ideal for groups of mixed abilities.
Off the slopes experience a classic alpine village with no cars and the luxurious spa at Mont Cervin Palace as well as world-class mountain dining
