THE ULTIMATE SUMMER GAP SEASON PROGRAMME

The Peak to Profession programme offers students a unique and broadly diversified pathway to become outdoor guides in one of Europe’s most spectacular regions in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

Famous for its endless opportunities for outdoor activities, the Interlaken region is the epicentre of commercial adventures and hosts the biggest community of outdoor guides in Central Europe.

Our 10-week programme commences from the middle of June to near the end of August and is designed for young adults to explore, train and gain qualifications in the Swiss mountains as a mountain professional would do.

During the programme, individuals will take part in many different summer outdoor experiences and activities, and train with expert instructors to gain the following qualifications.

Our programme is designed to challenge young adults to gain unique experiences and qualifications to further themselves and their careers. We make clear that this is an intensive course, packed full of adventure and we expect a high level of commitment to successfully pass.

All applicants will be required to attend an interview with the programme leaders to confirm their suitability. If you believe you have some of the following attributes, then get in touch.

Programme Features & Modules
Rescue 3 WRT-PRO

The Swiss Outdoor Association (SOA) is the national body for all certifications in various outdoor activities. Rescue 3 is an International Organisation which is highly recognized for setting worldwide standards in rescue.

SOA River Rafting Guide 1

the course covers a comprehensive range of topics essential for safe and effective rafting. You will learn fundamental raft techniques, including how to navigate rapids and manoeuvre the raft effectively through different types of water conditions. Paddle techniques will be taught to ensure efficient teamwork and coordination among raft occupants. Safety protocols will be emphasized, covering topics such as river safety, hazard identification, and the proper use of personal protective equipment.

Rescue 3 Whitewater Rescue Technician WRT-PRO

In addition to the core rafting skills, participants will delve into advanced topics such as hydrology, which covers the study of water flow dynamics and their effects on rafting routes and conditions. Self-rescue techniques in whitewater will be explored, focusing on methods for individuals to safely extricate themselves from hazardous situations while navigating rapids. Rope rescue techniques will be taught, equipping participants with the skills to perform effective rope-based rescues in challenging river environments.

SOA Canyoning Guide 1

Participants will receive comprehensive instruction in basic canyoning techniques, covering essential skills such as rappelling/abseiling down canyon walls, navigating rope systems, and executing basic rescue procedures. They will learn critical communication methods, including signals and hand signs in canyoning scenarios. Instruction will also cover selecting and using appropriate equipment for canyoning expeditions.

SOA Seilpark Operator

This training course culminates in the SOA qualification, enabling students to work in diverse rope activities such as abseiling, high ropes courses, and zip lines. Instruction covers essential topics including knot tying, rope management, and techniques for controlling rope courses. Participants will learn emergency procedures and customer care skills to ensure safe and enjoyable experiences for everyone.
