Uruguay Horse Riding Adventure
7 NIGHTSOur horse riding holiday takes you through ranches, wetlands, forests and the wonderful wild Atlantic beaches of Uruguay. On this scenic trek you’ll experience countryside like nowhere else in the world, and see local wildlife from turtles, sea lions and whales to armadillos. The tour is designed for all levels of riders; you do not need to be an expert at horsemanship in order to have a fabulous time. The horses we provide are hand-picked by the Gauchos and matched to the ability of the rider.
Your Uruguay adventure begins in Montevideo where your guide and driver will meet you at the airport. The first morning gives you the perfect opportunity to properly meet and get to know your horse. Start off nice and easy with a trip through the San Miguel Reserve to the fortress that was built back in 1734. After a long lunch make your way through the wetlands to Estancia San Miguel. Then back to the hotel with plenty of time to relax.
After breakfast, you will be taken to the beautiful city of Chuy. Spend the day riding through the prairies and then along the beach stopping off at lunch for a gourmet picnic. Spend the afternoon riding through the waves and along the beach to Palmares de al Coronillla. An adventurous fourth day will see you riding to Cerro Verde, as you are only allowed to travel there by foot or horse it is pristine and if you’re lucky you may be able to spot whales or marine turtles. After lunch, you will enjoy a relaxing ride along the beach to Santa Teresa Park where you can visit its breathtaking fortress.
A leisurely breakfast is followed by a tour of Avenida Horacio Arredondo, a beautiful botanic garden. After your walk around, its time to remount and head through Recrei del Soldado to the Black Lagoon. In contrast to its name the water here is pure and covers 182km2 while only being at a depth of 5m. The following day, the Dunes of Valizas and Cabo Polonio will be your starting point. Make your way through the National Park to the Village of Cabo Polonio. With only a few machines allowed in the village, its like going back in time. After lunch, gallop along the beach to the lighthouse and marvel at the panoramic views and the sea lion reserve.
You’ll spend the morning admiring the wetlands and the native forest of Estancia La Guardia del Monte. Keep your eyes open as this area has the highest concentration of birds in the country. After a relaxing lunch, you will start to feel like a local as you start working with the Gauchos to herd the cattle. On the final day, you’ll make your way to the vineyard where your host will take you through the different wines that they produce. After a hearty lunch and a delicious selection of wines, you will make your way to the airport in time for your flights home.
