For stunning views from the resort and the slopes, there are few places to rival Grindelwald. Offering great skiing for all abilities and dramatically set beneath the towering north face of the Eiger, this traditional Swiss village was home to Powder Byrne’s first ski programmes in 1985. Grindelwald was transformed for the 2019/20 season with vastly improved access to the slopes of Wengen and Mannlichen via phase 1 of the ambitious V-cableway project. Phase 2 of the project is set to transform access to the slopes further for the 2020/21 season with the opening of the Eigerexpress in December 2020 which will reduce journey time to the Eiger Glacier station by 47 minutes for maximum skiing (or hot chocolate) time.
LONG INTERMEDIATE SLOPES & BREATHTAKING MOUNTAIN SCENERY
Ski holidays in Grindelwald are perfect for families and skiers of all abilities. The 213km resort is well suited to novices thanks to the designated ‘Bodmi’ beginners ski area, but there is also extensive skiing for intermediate and advanced skiers. Fantastic new links to Wengen and Murren for the 2019/20 season have been rolled out with further links for the 2020/21 season and excellent off-piste and itinerary routes are not hard to find for advanced skiers. Serious skiers can take on the breathtaking Black Rock piste that comes down from the foot of the Eiger and in Murren there is the hair-raising vertiginous Kanonenrohr run. The infamous Lauberhorn World Cup downhill ski run is a great challenge and one for the bucket list for all skiers in Switzerland. The First-area is perfect for families as there is a lot of sun and different slopes for the whole family to enjoy, from longer blue slopes to steeper black runs. If you are in search of the perfect snow conditions along with stunning views then you should try the ‘Eiger Nordface’ run.
ACTIVITIES AND GASTRONOMY
We have hand-picked some of our favourite things to do and places to eat from our extensive experience in our original resort of Grindelwald. Our client concierge team will be happy to make reservations and give additional recommendations for you. You’ll find our top picks below.
Take in the views of the impressive Eiger mountain and ski the longest downhill course in the world. Stop off at Mary’s Cafe at the bottom for its famous Suppentopf, a soup with vegetables, beef and sausage all topped with cheese.
Unique to Grindelwald, the Velogemel is essentially a bicycle on skis, which the local doctor and postmen use to get around the village. They are available to hire for use on the extensive toboggan slopes of Grindelwald alongside the standard toboggans.
This family-run Pizzeria is located in the heart of Grindelwald village and uses an authentic wood oven to cook its delicious creations. Aside from pizza, other specialities include Raclette and oven-baked lamb.

Grindelwald – Winter 2018
“My husband and kids are all keen skiers, so after several ski holidays relaxing in the spa I thought it was finally time I tried to learn. Learn to ski in style was a great introduction to the slopes and it was great fun to be learning as part of a small group and being looked after by the great Powder Byrne staff.”
