Mount Teide Volcano
Tenerife's Mount Teide is a 12,198 ft active volcano that is the highest point in Spain. If measured from the ocean floor, it is the highest volcano in the world base-to-peak outside of the Hawaiian Islands and is considered Earth's third-tallest volcanic structure. The Teide National Park that surrounds the volcano has bee a UNESCO Site since 2007 and is the most visited national park in Europe.
Black sandy beaches
While Bahia del Duque's beach is fringed with golden sand, many of Tenerife's beaches, especially in the north of the island, have dark black sand created by the volcanic activity on the island. The black sand is beautifully dramatic, glistening in the sun, and makes a stark contrast to the azure waters.
One of the World's Longest Lava Tubes
Tenerife is home to the longest lava tunnel in Europe and the 5th largest in the world, called Cueva del Viento or the Wind Cave in English. The tunnels, which stretch over 18kms, were created by lava that pushed its way through the layers of rock when the volcano erupted.
