What is Powder Byrne’s Yeti Ski Programme?
The Yeti Programme is where many children begin their journey on skis with Powder Byrne. Designed for younger skiers aged 4-9, this children’s ski programme offers a thoughtful introduction to the mountains – one that feels both reassuring and exciting from the outset.
Rather than rushing progress, the focus is on helping each child settle in. Groups are small, matched loosely by ability, and adjusted in the early days as instructors get to know each child properly. It’s an approach that allows confidence to build naturally, creating a strong foundation for everything that follows.
A day in the Yeti Programme
Each day begins in the hotel boot room. From there, Yeti Assistants accompany the children to the slopes, where they meet their instructor and their group.
The morning is spent skiing, with breaks taken as needed rather than at fixed times. Some children take to it quickly, others take a little longer to find their feet. Both are expected. What matters is that each child feels comfortable enough to keep going.
Lunch is taken together on the mountain, giving the children a chance to stop, warm up and relax. Skis come off, helmets are set aside, and the energy shifts for a while. By the time they head out again, most feel more at ease both on the slopes and within their group.

A children’s ski programme built on routine and flexibility
As the week goes on, the children settle into a routine as activities and people become familiar.
Time off the slopes plays an equally an important part in building that familiarity. Yeti Suppers offer children the chance to eat together in the early evening, continuing the friendships formed during the day in a relaxed setting. Throughout the week, the team hosts a small number of organised evening activities, and babysitting can be arranged where needed, allowing for flexibility while maintaining a consistent routine for the children.
From the beginning, the Yeti Race gives the week a bit of direction. It’s a highlight for many – a chance to ski a familiar course, cheered on by instructors, assistants and parents. It gives them something to aim for through the week. By the final day, there’s a real mix of excitement and anticipation, with plenty of encouragement between the children as well as a bit of friendly competition.

The Powder Byrne difference
What defines the Yeti Programme is the level of care that sits alongside the skiing itself. The combination of expert instruction and dedicated support from Yeti Assistants creates an environment where children feel supported at every stage of the day.
This approach allows for one of the most attentive adult-to-child ratios on the mountain. It also means that children are not simply attending ski lessons, but are part of a fully managed experience — one that considers everything from logistics and safety to energy levels and engagement.
The structure is consistent across the week, but never rigid. There is room to adapt, whether that’s adjusting groups, taking a pause when needed, or recognising when a child is ready to move forward. It’s this balance between structure and flexibility that makes the Yeti Programme feel both dependable and personal.

Why families choose the Yeti Programme
For parents, it comes down to trust. The Yeti Programme gives children the chance to learn to ski while being looked after by a team that understands the day as a whole, from the first moments in the boot room through to the final runs in the afternoon.
That trust creates a sense of freedom. Parents can enjoy time on the mountain their way – enjoying the hotel, skiing independently or with a Powder Byrne guide, or taking part in a custom excursion, knowing their children are having fun in safe, capable hands. And this only continues as the children grow in age and confidence. We often see families return year-on-year and proudly coach younger skiers through the programme until they graduate out of Yeti and into our SnoZone or Ski Academy programmes.

A ski holiday for all the family
The Yeti Programme offers more than an introduction to skiing. It provides a first sense of independence in the mountains, supported by a team that understands how to make that experience feel both secure and enjoyable.
