The island of Sri Lanka has so much to offer and it can sometimes be hard to know where to start. The Sri Lanka 101 Itinerary takes you through all the must-see parts of this beautiful country ensuring you make the most of your visit.
Below is just a suggestion to what we can offer that can be used as a framework to start making your plans, amended, or completely changed to best suit your requirements for an extra special adventure holiday.
ARRIVAL IN SRI LANKA
Upon arrival at Bandaranaike Airport, you will be met by your driver and transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of your day relaxing by the pool or take a short ride to Negombo a picturesque fishing village. Here you will find the Angunukaramulla Buddhist Temple alongside a small Dutch fort dating back to 1678.
DAY 2 - 4
After breakfast, you will be driven to the Habarana. The next three days are full of adventure and activities; spend time wandering around a coconut and pineapple farm learning how these exotic products are grown and how they are utilised in everyday life. Visit the Samarasinghe's Manor and accompany their eight resident elephants down the river for bath time.
On the way to Kandy swing by Dambulla. Known for its incredible cave temples cut into the rock and frescoes dating back over 2,000 years, it's considered the cultural capital of Sri Lanka. Spend time exploring the beautiful Kandy at your leisure or visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic where prayer services are held daily at dawn, midday, and in the evening.
STOP OVER IN NUWARA ELIYA
After breakfast, your journey to Nuwara Eliya begins. En route you will visit a tea estate for a "Tea Experience" where you will visit tea plantations and where professional tea pluckers will give you the opportunity to learn how to pluck the tea leaves. They'll then take you through the whole process from drying through to producing the different types of tea. Don't forget to try the samples!
Your next stop is Yala National Park where your first exciting excursion is a dawn safari; go in search of leopards, elephants, bears, and crocodiles with an expert naturalist. With an estimated 35 leopards and 400 elephants, Yala gives you a great opportunity to see these animals in their natural habitat.
DAY 10 - 11
Travelling south you will find yourself in Galle. While driving through the acres of cinnamon plantations why not take the time to learn about this fascinating plant? Later you will be able to experience the ever famous stilt fisherman engaging in their daily catch. While in Galle take a guided walk to reveal quirky and extraordinary things about this ancient city built by the Dutch.
DAY 12 - 13
COLOMBO AND HOME
The last leg of your journey will see you head back to Colombo. Enjoy the island's largest city as it bursts with life and colour. This modern city with an ancient heart is a monument to its colonial history; make sure to visit the famous Gangaramaya Temple, with its many statues of Buddha. After a relaxing sleep, the next stop is the airport where your holiday comes to a close.
