Grindelwald

Switzerland

Picturesque, sophisticated and rustic, with great skiing for all abilities, the chocolate box village of Grindelwald is dramatically set in magnificent scenery, beneath the mighty Eiger.

The Skiing

The infamous Lauberhorn World Cup downhill ski run is a great challenge for skiers in Switzerland and our mountain guides will oversee some fantastic heli-skiing when the conditions allow. The First-area is perfect for families as there is a lot of sun and different slopes for the whole family to enjoy, from longer blue slopes to steeper black runs. For beginners, we recommend the bodmi arena as it is an excellent place to learn how to ski. However, if you are in search for the perfect snow conditions along with stunning views then you should to the 'Eiger Nordface' run.

Ski holidays in Grindelwald are perfect for families and skiers of mixed abilities. The resort is well suited to novices thanks to the designated 'Bodmi' beginners ski area, but there is also extensive skiing for intermediates with links to Wengen and Murren, and fantastic off-piste and itinerary routes for advanced skiers. There are 213kms of slopes across the Jungfrau Top Ski Region, which include a large variety of runs, including an 8km piste from Oberjoch to Gindelwald. Serious skiers can take on the breathtaking Black Rock piste that comes down from the foot of the Eiger, and in Murren there is the hair-raising vertiginous Kanonenrohr run.

the village

A picture perfect Swiss ski resort situated in the Bernese Oberland, Grindelwald is the epitome of 'Heidi country'. A pretty village with a long mountaineering history that's overlooked by the magnificent Monch, Eiger and Jungfrau mountains, the main street buzzes year-round with international visitors there for the spectacular scenery as much as the skiing. Grindelwald is recognised as an area of outstanding beauty and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it's also home to Powder Byrne's very first ski programmes.

Hotel Belvedere

Hotel Belvedere

Hotel Belvedere has an idyllic location, just a short walk from the village centre and is well known for its fantastic dining. The hotel is run by three generations of the charming Hauser family who have proven season after season to be enthusiastic and cordial hosts.

Hotel Schweizerhof

Hotel Schweizerhof

The Schweizerhof exudes charm and elegance from its chalet-style architecture, but do not be fooled by its traditional exterior as you will find light, spacious rooms inside. The hotel has an enviable location near to the train station giving easy access to the main ski area.

Hotel Aspen

Hotel Aspen

The Aspen is an incredibly luxurious hotel, but still maintains a comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere. Situated near the valley in Grindelwald, the views are simply stunning from every angle.

Gastronomy

For rustic charm and ambience, combined with traditional restaurants, stunning views and great skiing, then Grindelwald is perfect. Indulge in traditional Swiss delicacies, and explore the resort's 15 mountain restaurants. We recommend a visit to the Bellevue at Kleine Scheidegg, Wengeralp, Brandegg mountain restaurant and Barry's restaurant. The restaurants at Hotel Kirchblick and the Aspen are also highly recommended for dinner.

A modern mountain restaurant with a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Enjoy freshly cooked food, and step outside to enjoy the magnificent mountain views.

Active Rest

Guests in Hotel Schweizerhof can enjoy the bio sauna or Finnish sauna and then enjoy a cool down in the Ice Grotto; a fountain filled with ice crystals. You can also relax in your very own herbal steam bath or have a decadent massage treatment. After a hard day on the slopes, rest and recuperate in Hotel Belvedere's BelAqua Spa. Ideal for a little escapism and restorative the spa is complete with outdoor salt water Jacuzzi, Finnish sauna, steam bath and pools.

The picturesque resort of Grindelwald in the Bernese Oberland is a classic Swiss village with bags of charm. For off the slopes action there’s a range of winter sports including 90km of tobogganing runs, but if you’re after something more relaxing try a horse-drawn carriage ride. A local activity that is quite unique is the velogemmel, which looks like a bicycle on skis! Or, for those seeking an adrenalin kick zoom through the air at 80 km/h on the First Flieger – an aerial cableway included on your ski pass.
