Medical Insurance
As a service to our clients, we automatically insure everyone against claims for medical and related expenses while you are on holiday with us, regardless of any other cover you may have in place. In this way we can be sure that not only is everyone covered against illness and accidents, but that our resort staff will know exactly who to contact in an emergency and will be better placed to help you.The sum insured is £5,000,000 and the full policy wording will be sent to you with your booking confirmation, which we urge you to read, and in particular the exclusions related to pre-existing medical conditions. Since this insurance is provided on a complimentary basis, you are asked to pay the first £125 of any claim, but this amount is reduced if you do not opt out of the 'top up' cover.
The insurance is a good quality plan, designed by the ski expert at MPI Brokers. It includes the usual skiing clauses such as off-piste†, snowboarding and tobogganing. It also pays for rescue, by helicopter if necessary, and the additional costs of getting home.
It is underwritten by Optimum Underwriting Ltd as underwriting agents for Groupama, one of the largest insurance companies in the UK and Europe.
All Claims are handled by Claims International and Medical Assistance is handled by First Assist, well known for their experience in helping and, where necessary, repatriating injured skiers.
†Off-piste skiing and snowboard cover - explained
We have for many years been concerned about this aspect of cover in winter sports policies generally and we are aware that there are some schemes, including those purporting to be dedicated plans for winter sports, which exclude skiing off-piste or restrict this to skiing with a guide. It is our view that this is impractical as one can ski off-piste unwittingly and in certain circumstances it is possible to be skiing on a 'pisted run', which is designated off-piste.It is due to this type of confusion that we have chosen MPI Brokers to provide our Clients' winter sports insurance as they are the market specialists and have no such exclusions or limitations in the policy made available to our Clients. There is however a general requirement common to all insurance to behave in a reasonable and sensible manner.
Top Up Cover
This provides the rest of the wintersports insurance package other than the medical section. Some of the features of top-up cover are:
- Cancellation covered from time of booking
- Medical excess reduced to £50.00
- Only one excess deducted for multi-section claims
- Missed departure includes delayed arrival for delays during your journey
- Includes extra cost of car parking and kennels etc. if you are late home on your return journey
- Only one company to deal with when making a claim
We operate this on an opt-out basis, which means that you will automatically be covered and the premium, which is initially part of your deposit, will be shown as a separate item on your invoice. You will therefore be covered for cancellation from the time of booking. To 'opt out' you must complete and return the booking form and state "no" to the top-up insurance option within 14 days of the booking date. A credit note will then be issued against your top-up insurance and the premium deducted from the balance of your holiday cost.

Codes of practice
- Pre-existing medical disclosure. There are exclusions relating to pre-existing medical conditions and we urge you to read the policy carefully to establish whether a pre-existing condition is excluded. Should this be the case and you would like consideration to be given to include your medical condition, please contact MPI Brokers on 0870 333 4005 who will ask you a number of questions relating to your condition and, if necessary, refer you to a specialist medical screening unit.
- Insurance document. You should read this carefully. It gives full details of what is and is not covered and the conditions of the cover.
- Conditions and Exclusions. Specific conditions and exclusions apply to individual sections of your insurance, whilst general exclusions and conditions will apply to the whole of your insurance.
- Health. This insurance contains restrictions regarding pre-existing medical problems concerning the health of the people travelling and of other people upon whose health the trip depends. You are advised to read the document carefully.
- Property claims. These claims are paid based on the value of the goods at the time you lose them and not on a 'new for old' or replacement cost basis.
- Limits. This insurance has limits on the amount the insurer will pay under each section. Some sections also include other specific limits, for example, for any one item or for valuables in total.
- Excesses. Under some sections of this insurance, claims will be subject to an excess. This means you will be responsible for the first part of any claim.
- Reasonable care. You need to take all reasonable care to protect yourself and your property, as you would if you were not insured.
- Date Change Exclusion. Your policy excludes anything directly or indirectly caused by the failure of any computer hardware or software or any other electrical equipment to recognise or process any date as the true calendar date.
- Dangerous sports and pastimes. If you are going to take part in dangerous sports or pastimes where there is an inherent risk of injury, check that this insurance covers you.
- Client service. We pride ourselves in providing a high level of service. However if you think we have not lived up to your expectations, please refer to the wording which outlines our complaints procedure.
- Cooling off period. This insurance contains a 14 day 'cooling off' period for top-up only, during which time you may opt out.
