From Cusco, the former Inca Capital, you’ll explore rarely visited ruins on horseback, raft and canoe the Rio Urubamba and descend into the Sacred Valley of the Incas by mountain bike. Having acclimatised to the altitude, the world-famous Royal Inca Trail awaits, an awe-inspiring trek leading to Machu Picchu, bound to be the highlight of your Peruvian adventure.
On arrival there will be time to acclimatise exploring the former Inca Capital and Spanish Colonial city of Cusco, your base for the next 3 nights.
From Cusco ride through rarely visited ruins on horseback, raft and canoe the fun and scenic Rio Urubamba with an instructor and descend into the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Visit the quaint town of Pisac with its extensive artisan market before retiring for the evening at a charming hacienda near Urubamba, your home for the next couple of nights.
The mountain bike descent on Day 5 provides fun for all the family with the final stretch through the spectacular working saltpans of Maras. And for those who get weary there’s a constant support vehicle on hand. Relax in the evening surrounded by beautiful gardens or visit nearby Urubamba for some top quality ceramics.
On Day 6 you’ll take the train to 104km to start the Royal Inca Trail, making the assent to Wiñay Wayna, a beautiful Inca ruin full of swallows and orchids. A contour path through the cloud forest leads to Inti Puncu, the gateway of the Sun and your first glimpse of Machu Picchu.
Day 7 Returning first thing after a night in Aguas Calientes, you have Machu Picchu virtually to yourselves with a private guide before boarding the afternoon train back to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Celebrate in style over dinner in one of Cusco’s excellent restaurants.
Day 8 Free day in Cusco for sightseeing.
Day 9 Transfer to Airport for connecting flight home or join an extension either to overnight on an island in Lake Titicaca or explore the Amazon rainforest from a delightful Jungle lodge to make a perfect two week break.

TRAIN TO TITICACA & OVERNIGHT ON AN ISLAND
Take the Orient Express train to Titicaca - One of the "Great Train journeys of the World" and overnight in Puno.
Lake Titicaca homestay on Amantani Island - Spend the next couple of days on a cruise boat out onto Lake Titicaca, a unique experience visiting a collection of floating islands made out of reeds, home to Aymara-speaking Uros people. Continue your journey on to Amantani, where you’ll stay overnight as guests of one of the local families, returning via the more prosperous Taquille Island, famous for its weaving and knitting.
AMAZONIAN RAINFOREST EXPERIENCE
Stay in a well-appointed jungle lodge in the excellent lowland rain forest of the Tambopata National Reserve, a fantastic way to see some of the world's best rain forest wildlife available during a short stay.
Cusco to Puerto Maldonado to Jungle Lodge - A short flight from Cusco takes you deep in the Amazon rainforest where you will be met by your expert resident guide who’ll escort you on a trip down river to your jungle lodge, complete with hammock.
Jungle Activities - The jungle is usually alive very early in the morning so head out pre-dawn and discover monkeys, birds, giant otters, ants galore and learn about the rainforest from your expert guides either on foot or by dugout canoe. Take a canoe or explore the trails and catch a beautiful sunset over the Amazon basin before an evening relaxing.

We recommend you fly KLM from London Heathrow to Lima via Amsterdam. Alternatively, you can also fly with Iberia (now codeshare with BA) via Madrid.
On arrival in Lima, an internal flight will be arranged to Cuzco.
